@scottzona.bsky.social Early results from width/length/precip study supports an intrinsic ringing function in L. tridentata so far!

Welp it happened for the first time: a ancient creosote ring in my database was wiped out by normal development. Won't be the last

Something holds me back from purchasing stuff from Etsy shops, Instagram persons, and similar.

Why dont they just make a website?

Am I old?

So many cool treasures though

Why do creosote shrubs form rings at extreme ages? The prevailing view is that the central area dies off due to lack of resorces. I think this is incorrect. I think we are not seeing a failure of growth but a masterful engineering success! Any input? #botany #ecology

Do yourself a favor and pickup the Entry Grade RX-78-2 from Michael's. its like 20 bucks, comes with tons of extra weapons, and is a great entry point for #gunpla. i built it in about 2 hours but I was slacking. No stickers! No glue! Good fun kit to see if you enjoy the hobby young or old

This "ontogenetic switch" may supoort my theory of the rings being an intrinsic adaptation rather than a failure due to central die off: the young shrub needs to grow vertically to establish its initial root system and canopy.
@scottzona.bsky.social observation on ancient Larrea tridentata rings: A young shrub will seek to increase the size of its canopy and put apparently little energy into terrestrial outward expansion. But then, something happens, and it appears to do to the opposite behavior entirely

I made a pocket dichotomous key for identifying creosote so in case youre walking around and want to know if a shrub is one or not #botany

So there's this ghost town in the mojave called Ballarat. I think like one guy lives there. A few miles down the road, somewhat not near Ballarat, you'll see a huge sign spray painted something like this: "FRANK - MAYOR OF BALLARAT - STOP ON IN" and various other stuff that doesn't really fit but..

Creosote rings. Within 10 miles of my own house! Closest I have found. Fragmented, smallish, and not great quality. Visiting this weekend

An issue that's been bothering me need help @randisc.com. according to my process for long axis measurment (longest point between 2 canopy points), here is the long axis for MOJ-JO-003. This doesn't necessarily give the best idea of the "average" or "obvious" long axis, which is horizontal 90°...

I'm here outside Speaker Johnson’s office because he is starving families and gutting health care to cover up the Epstein Files.

Change my mind.

2020: for all his power over the economy, in the end Jamie Dimon’s life hung completely at the mercy of the labor of someone who probably couldn’t afford his bank’s fees.

I made this mojave creosote scene featuring a large shrub, a small clonal ring with coppice dune, a tiny seedling shrub along with some seasonal herbs, grases, and rocks

The thing is, there shouldn't be too much mystery in the development progression of the creosote ring. The vast times scales are not a true problem because we have examples of every stage of ring, from a seedling up to a massive ring complex...
