This is the lead story in the New York Times. If you're in the business of communicating, whether through journalism, commentary, or art, this is the five-alarm fire. People are going to remember who spoke up and who stayed conveniently silent or postured about "neutrality."

This is the legacy moment for Disney CEO Robert Iger, a man who once toyed with a Presidential run as a Democrat. You stand up for unpopular free speech or you stand against all free speech. There's no middle.

Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.
Breaking News: Brad Lander, the New York City comptroller who is running for mayor, was detained by ICE agents at an immigration court as he tried to escort a migrant out of the courthouse to prevent his arrest. nyti.ms/4jWkANE

The other thing I loved about #Sinners is that I’m very comforted by movies and TV shows in which people are competent and intelligent when faced with problems!

We could just be reading great books, watching good movies, and eating fruit. Instead we have to survive/fight miserable power hoarders. What a waste of limited time.

I won't whine about this when bigger stuff is going on; the arts will survive the bullying anti-artist paranoia and ignorance of Trump and the GOP. But the NEA, NEH, PBS, and NPR will all be targeted for elimination by this turdpile of a regime and its lickspittles. One more reason to hate them.

I cannot stress enough that libraries need to be defended. Public. Academic. School. Fight for them. USE them & make it known that you're using them.

As a librarian who lost the fight at their institution & was forced to toss 120,000 books because "no one reads books anymore," I am begging you.

RIP Gena Rowlands. If you've never seen A Woman Under the Influence or Opening Night, I don't even know what to say to prepare you. Throw away any preconceptions you have about the limits or rules of acting, watch, and be awed. She was that good.

Annie Baker's debut "Janet Planet" is a quietly confident and observant film that brings an early 90s childhood spent in Western Mass to vibrant, specific life. Let's hope Julianne Nicholson isn't left out of Oscar nom convos later this year—her performance had me in awe.
