Not because I don't have a great family - I do. But the family I chose understands me on a whole lot of other levels.

All the time. I have a couple platonic life partners raising 2 kids together, with no idea who is actually the father of the youngest (it's complicated). I've got a brother w/a younger sister he raised, believing he was her uncle, & their terrible mother.

Why would they read? There's no joy of reading taught to them. Everything is taught to pass a test, to make a grade, to be a good little automata under capitalism and be a part of the worker bees.

And I completely understand that it's not just that. We are also choking out any creative reading or writing in schools. Burying kids beneath assignment after assignment meant to get them to hit a measuring bar so schools get finances and overloaded kids who can't absorb info are passed through.
