An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

"Fossil fuels are only going to get more expensive and renewables are only going to get cheaper" is both true & something the public is already inclined to believe (or at the very least is persuadable).

I'm quote tweeting not as a dunk, but there's an influencer who got offered a free IV drip and as a result has been dealing with the flesh eating bacteria for years now.

A lot of these medi-spas are not well regulated and opening your arm to them has real infection risks.
Both of my siblings are proponents of the IV drip for general health which feels like… too much? My sister just had one to recover from jet lag. Am I in denial and possibly because I need an IV drip?

The ancient epic of Jason and the Argonauts has Hercules on the boat at the start, but they leave him behind by accident, for basically no reason.

After their first big battle someone says “kind of a good thing Herc isn’t with us, he would have made all the fights too easy.” That’s the reason.
Man, everything is so bleak, anyone got a fun fact or little bit of trivia they want to share

This is a blindingly obvious point that so many anti-immigrant types just refuse to accept - other countries can in fact make decisions about who they want to let in too.
And a lot of failed asylum seekers literally can’t be deported because the UK government has not agreed with the “home country” to take the person back or the home country just deports the person back to the UK and sends the bill to the UK government

Even the ad targeting was basically a zero sum arms race with minimal or negative utility for both brands and consumers. We basically constructed a system that was bad for users and bad for buyers but created a simulacrum of consumer rationality that was attractive to executives.

is this a popularist argument or a materialist argument? because if it is a populist argument, it fails because fracking is direly unpopular in the UK, and if it is a materialist argument, then the lack of any substantial reserves would seem to contradict it.

it does seem as though matt has excluded all of the negative electoral outcomes of his prescriptions via one method or another without ever having been able to identify a single positive electoral outcome.
Sure! It seems like they did a good job of adopting election-winning positions but while in office have not delivered good policy outcomes.

That’s why it’s good to have popular views on cultural issues and technocratically sound economic policy.

What’s your take?

had she won, the compromises she made would have been worth it. but you cannot claim that you are entitled to sacrifice others' interests for an objective you did not achieve. you are gambling with house money at that point and have to take responsibility when you lose.

i mean, just from a structural perspective, 'not starting a knife fight with the current holder of the office' seems as though it would be a good idea, except when you look at the fact that his approval was in the mid-30s and that may have been _exactly_ what she needed to do.

And let me editorialize that's reinforced by a society that tells us that rich must have worked hard to get it. When its luck.
