Merry Christmas/Happy holidays to all. Love your neighbour, tolerate your relatives with whom you disagree, if you have access to Bluesky remember that you have it better than many, many people and don’t stress about unimportant shit.

Listening to Bing Crosby Christmas songs and musing on how the US once seemed to me as a place where things were bigger, bolder, forward-thinking & more glamorous. Now what image does the US conjure? Brash, tacky, insensitive, devoid of humanity and without any class whatsoever. Such a shame…

If you haven't heard of them @intergenerational.bsky.social do great work on this stuff. Young people are dealt a shit hand by govt after govt. I am increasingly wondering whether compulsory voting from 16+ could be a good first step to redressing the pensioner bias
I'm constantly shocked (but not surprised) by how little we discuss the additional financial burden placed on young people by the Clegg-Cameron student loan regime.

@rmcunliffe.bsky.social is one of the few journalists who brings it up continuously - once again in the wake of the budget 👇

I keep hearing politicians say how technology moves so fast that legislation can’t keep up. My question is why is tech that is not covered by legislation permitted to be sold/marketed/implemented? Replace ‘technology’ with ‘medicine’ and you can see how insane it is to allow this to continue.

This can’t be allowed to happen, we can’t award a £2 billion contract to an Israeli arms company in the middle of this genocide, mass starvation and ethnic cleansing. We’re obliged to do what we can to prevent Genocide when we see it happening - not support it.

Parliament returns today.

But rather than representing his constituents after six weeks away from the Commons, Farage is speaking at an event alongside Trump’s authoritarian allies in Washington 👇🏻
Nigel Farage set to skip Parliament's return to cosy up with Donald Trump allies
As Parliament returns from recess on 1 September, Nigel Farage will be in Washington DC speaking at a right-wing conference

@darrenpjones.bsky.social Congrats on your new position in number 10. From what I’ve seen of you, you seem relative straight talking (by politician standards) and to have decent political instincts. Christ knows Starmer needs some actually good political advice for a change. Best of luck!!! 😊

Extremely excited to have @victoriatran.bsky.social on board as a monthly columnist, providing insight into the world of indie games development and community management. Fantastic first piece too, covering the plague of clone games that plagiarize the work of game makers.
So what's up with all those clone games on the App Stores and eShops and Robloxes of the world? Just how big of a problem are they?

Innersloth's @victoriatran.bsky.social gives us the lowdown in her new regular column, Indie Insight.

🚨An important reminder of the trauma faced by asylum seekers.

Not just in fleeing persecution abroad.

Not just in the perilous and desperate journey to these shores.

But by the hatred and vitriol put on them by the right wing in this country for callous political gain.
