Can you imagine how Reform UK would react if a Welsh leader of any other party had been sentenced for 10 years for taking bribes?

Nathan Gill once said he "would never apologise for being patriotic".

Tbf he never said to which country...

UK Labour want everyone to know that their new asylum policies, inc stealing the valuables of asylum seekers, were inspired by the Danish Social Democrats.

In Denmark's local elections yesterday the Soc Dems took a hammering, losing Copenhagen for the first time in 122 years. The new mayor? Green.
👏 Congratulations to @sissemariewe.bsky.social who was just elected as the new mayor of Copenhagen.

💚Congratulations to all of the SF members re-elected or newly elected and for the incredible 17.9% of votes across the country.

Danish right-wing populists are pretty much back to the same level as before Mette Frederiksen came to power. Soc Dems are competitive because they lead a left-wing bloc in a PR system. Doesn't transfer neatly to the UK, where losing liberal voters to Greens/etc would cost Labour seats to Reform

This is very much the majority/median position in the Labour Party, among Labour voters and the general public.
We should stop the boats because it's dangerous, and we should stop the scapegoating of immigrants because it's wrong and cruel.

Controlled migration is good for the country, helps build our economy and diversity strengthens our communities. (1/6) 🧵

It's true. If Labour raise income taxes, the party might slump to around a quarter of the vote, and its PM and Chancellor might be even more unpopular than Rishi Sunak in 2024 or Jeremy Corbyn in 2019 - wait, sorry, just got an email from Ipsos with some new polling, I'm sure it's nothing important.
Quite a contrast to the BlueSky consensus the last 24 hours
Do you think the government was right or wrong to decide not to raise income tax at the Budget?

Right: 58%
Wrong: 21%

You could make it a gameshow where a left-wing contestant and a right-wing contestant try to see how many errors they can spot which back up their ideological prejudice, and winner gets to fire the DG and appoint the next one.

A very enjoyable and wide ranging discussion.

We talked about my time in apartheid South Africa, squatting in London, anarcho-punk, Welsh politics and more. Not to mention some very tasty carrots!

Well worth a watch.

Makes sense for England to do this, but also creates a mess for Wales without devolution of policing to the Senedd.

As described Merthyr Tudful council would have more power over policing than the Senedd does!
They were being integrated with the mayor role anyway so this makes total sense. No need for a separate function. Helps build up mayors as the single tier of regional government.
BREAKING Home Office is about to announce that police and crime commissioners are to be scrapped..
Established in 2012 by Theresa May, Labour has never been a fan of the PCC system…they’ll be replaced in 2028 by policing mayors & local policing boards ..

Robbie Gibb was appointed to the BBC Board by Boris Johnson, was an editorial advisor for GB News, and worked as Theresa May's Director of Comms.

He is not impartial or neutral. The government should remove him from the Board immediately to protect the BBC's independence.

Ever since 2008 I remember loving watching the Olympics.

I didn't watch the Olympics in Paris because they sold off broadcast rights away from public broadcasters.

I guess now they want me to boycott it next time too.
The International Olympic Committee is set to ban trans and intersex women from competition. This is despite the fact that for 20 years, the IOC has allowed trans athletes to compete and only 1 has ever competed and none have ever won a medal.

🧵💚Does the Green Party's wider focus on economic/social justice issues mean that climate is being crowded out? Not for their voters - in fact those who now say they would vote green are more likely to back a range of 'climate action' measures than those who voted Green in 2024.

All this shows is that Reform voters can dish it out, but can't take it.

Surprise, surprise.
Reform voters are more likely to say that the BBC is too soft when it interviews politicians, but more likely to say the BBC is too harsh when interviewing Nigel Farage. More Lib Dem & Green voters say they are too soft on Farage, while more Labour & Tory voters say about right
