Hi new folks! I'm a translator, editor, and game dev! I worked on stuff like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fire Emblem Three Hopes, Voice of Cards, Dragalia Lost, plus neat stuff like FFXIV TTRPG + Chocobo and the Airship. Now I'm at TPCi!

it's a shame clair obscur has become a weird flashpoint for bad takes, as well as beloved enough for the "actually it's not that good" takes (which I don't agree with at all but are valid), because I think it's incredible and easily the RPG I've loved most since BG3 and one of my favorites ever

I *do* think however that it's grotesque to be giving awards to companies that have laid off huge chunks of the workforce that worked on these games that are now getting awards

Two things can be true: 1.) The Game Awards are meaningless and we shouldn't take them all that seriously. 2.) Award shows of its scale DO rewrite the mainstream history of the art form, whether they deserve to or not, and its okay to care that it's so thoughtless despite having that responsibility.

GDT Frankenstein was great. Gorgeous sets and shots, costumes great, some really great work from the actors.

Overall, I think a series like Lumines, which already had a strong style, isn't served by giving it the Tetris Effect synesthesia treatment the way Tetris was. It feels weaker as a game for it, while still being an impressive experiment in style overall.

Finished Lumines Arise! Pretty decent, but I think the style/substance ratio isn't in its favor. Music is interesting and suits what they were trying to do, but is also like, 60% moody ambiance that isn't much outside of the game.

friday soapbox: as a designer, if you want something to be a skillful action for players, and you want growth in this skill to be very deep/meaningful, then you need to also let players be bad at it. sometimes horrendously bad. players hate this pain, and designers often want to mitigate it away.

I feel like every new thing revealed about Prime 4 makes me less interested in it. And it feels like Nintendo is promoting it in a really disinterested way. I hope it's good, but it really seems like it's getting even further away from what was great about Prime 1 (or Dread)
