Wistfully thinking about the last week or so. I can't help but remember these lines from Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises ...

𝗕𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘁: “𝗢𝗵 𝗝𝗮𝗸𝗲 . . . 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿,”

𝗝𝗮𝗸𝗲: “𝗜𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘀𝗼?”
File under collateral research...

I am constantly reminded that, often times, people are MUCH closer in real life than a family tree might otherwise indicate.

So, research those siblings and inlaws like crazy. Never assume some person is too far afield - you just never know.

FAN!

For all of my #genealogy and #ancestryhour peeps - you should know that recently Ancestry has changed its ToS to prevent searching of public records hosted on the Ancestry site to keep investigative genetic genealogy (IGG) practitioners and forensic genealogists (FGs) OUT. (Please read the whole 🧵)

Hi #GenHour. I have a technical Q. I'm looking at my mtDNA results. Mutations are all recorded AnnnnnD (A is Ancestral, nnnnn is the location, D is the Derived value). Most of the Derived values are upper-case, but some are recorded with lower-case letter e.g. C16259g.What does lower-case indicate ?

I am now quite literally all over the map. There's a pun in there somewhere. 🤪

Friendly reminder - CENSUS SEARCH - when you're certain where a family should be living, and they're just not coming up, swap the surname and forename. Just tracked down a family in the 1911 Irish Census using their address which matched 1909 and 1912 birth records. Sure enough, bingo! #Genealogy
