Today I learned that the same prop U-boat was used In Raiders of the Lost Ark and Das Boot

Both films were shot in La Rochelle at the same time (even this blows my mind) and the prop company rented out Das Boot's sub to Steven Spielberg for a week, forgetting to paint the right number back on after

Plans have been submitted to demolish East Kilbride's South Parish Church in order to build housing

Designed by architect Robert WKC Rogerson and opened in 1964, the unlisted church closed last year and was marketed for sale by the Church of Scotland in January

The reaction to the Panorama edit has been nothing short of hysterical. Yes the BBC has some impartiality problems. But its biggest isn't the one you think.

New piece from me.

For non-Irish: The show premise is that Tommy Tiernan (the dad on Derry Girls) doesn’t know who his guest is until they appear.

The chat with Ireland’s outgoing president, Michael D Higgins, is beautiful.

I made the kid watch it to study how Irish people can dance across registers.

The real story is almost always better than the soundbite version, and the truth lies somewhere between 'team of men discovered DNA' and 'men stole woman's work'. History may have been unfair to Rosalind Franklin for various reasons, but some of the revisionist history has been unfair to her too.
What Rosalind Franklin truly contributed to the discovery of DNA’s structure
Franklin was no victim in how the DNA double helix was solved. An overlooked letter and an unpublished news article, both written in 1953, reveal that she was an equal player.
