Headteacher of the primary school I went to when I was little. Worked here for over 20 years and still love it. We were evacuated 16/01/23. Can’t wait to be back together as one school. Also love books.
Collective cohesion is talked about so much but this article really unpicks how we might achieve that in our school.

The point about remaining constantly aware of the challenges faced by our communities really resonated with me.

I couldn’t help but marvel at the flock of the birds this evening. I had to revisit my blog on murmurations and complex organisations

“Schools are brimming with blessings”

Yes to this! Deliberately making the effort to notice them, no matter how small, is where we find the joy 🥰

How amazing is this! 💗
This year's royalties for The Art and Science of Teaching Primary Reading have arrived (£5477.65).

As promised, this money has been donated to Malaria Consortium.

This brings the running total donated (with Gift Aid) to about £57,000 in four years.

I had a great time at Barrow Library this afternoon for the “After the Fire” book launch and heritage exhibition.

Can’t wait to add these to our school library.

“The story of Sacred Heart and its place in residents’ hearts is far from over”

Hopefully the public engagement meetings will answer people’s questions.

My mam, me and my kids all attended this school. I’ve only ever worked here. I get people feeling strongly.

“My friend, Billy Whiskers” is such a charming story with the most beautiful illustrations.

I loved reading it to Class 2 this afternoon and they definitely enjoyed it 💗📚

They all wanted to be first to borrow it from our school library.

“Talent management isn’t a luxury. It’s equity work.”
🔥Remember, remember...

Where there is fire, there's probably plenty of talent too.

My reflections on why tackling inequality depends on us having the right people in place.

How special are our peripatetic music teachers 💗

Our children had a great session today. Thank you Ely Wilson for exposing our children to different music styles and for boosting their confidence 🎻

Hats off to the early years team today.

They are a special bunch who recognise the benefits for our children of being outside in nature despite the weather.

Totally agree. It makes me so sad when other routes and pathways to fulfilling employment are devalued by some.

🚨 Reform the National Funding Formula 🚨

Previous changes to the NFF have had a disproportionately negative impact on schools in deprived areas.

We're calling for it to be reformed to rebalance funding back towards schools that need it the most.

Yep, non negotiables = tick box culture.
Non negotiables constrain our amazing teams. We need to trust our teachers.
Also I think non negotiables get in the way of excellence.
NEW POST

Almost every school I know has a list of Teaching and Learning or curriculum "non-negotiables." But is that a good term to use in schools?

Please share if you can 🙏🙏

🚪 I don’t think we can simply talk about ‘opening’ doors of opportunity anymore. Especially for young people from low income backgrounds.
