For those of us interested and concerned with the Government's approach, I found this a helpful guide to the consultation process.
I am currently, because I know how to enjoy a Saturday morning, writing some guidance for people on filling this consultation in. As I do several things are highly apparent. Before I go through them though I don't want this to put people off of filling it in. It is important to do so nonetheless. 1/
Government has today published its consultation into "earned settlement", the forward alone contains a hot mess of misrepresentation of the current system by the Home Secretary. I would strongly urge anyone affected by the current system to respond.

Fantasy numbers.

Many of those "EU nationals" claims he can cut benefits to *are already UK citizens*.

Almost all the rest are entitled to UK citizenship.

Idea this will save any significant sum is simply absurd.

One of the most worrying thing about the Trumpian wing of politics has been their attempts, quite often successful, to attack and corrupt independent institutions.

We need to defend the BBC, one of the most trusted institutions in the UK. It's far from perfect, but it's pretty bloody good!
What you’re witnessing is a populist assault on the BBC.

This is not an institutional scandal in any meaningful sense of the word. It is an attack on public service broadcasting.

Can you imagine if Keir Starmer got private companies that he had direct power over and rich donors who wanted deregulation to pay £250 million in donations to knock down part of Big Ben to make his own little special tower? Because that's what Trump is doing to the White House literally right now.

This -official Conservative policy - is essentially identical to the Reform policy that the Prime Minister described as "racist and immoral" and would "rip out country apart".

Would be good if media and politicians pointed this out .
Lam's proposal is to refuse future grants of ILR but to cancel past grants of permanent status to anyone who is not likely to be a fiscal net contributor, and anyone "who has accessed state support" once they got permanent status. That will revoke pledges to those told this was their permanent home.

It's a fool's errand to try to figure out why each individual shooter did what they did; it centers one erratic, unwell individual (which is impossible to solve) rather than the structural problems (which are possible to solve). And the structural problem is this: guns. I explain more here:
Guns at Annunciation
I was baptized at the church where kids were murdered. It's a canary in the coal mine for a dystopian America, where people blame everything but the real cause: a country awash with unlimited guns.
