Convo with my friend from Hungary tonight who left after Orban’s election.

She said “your head will spin with all the wild stuff they try to pull, new things every day, but don’t take your eyes off the money. It’s all about the money, and what they’re stealing, and for whom.”

I cannot, during these horrific times, recommend enough the importance of making pockets of time to just do things that are not related to anything but the joy of being alive and playing. You need it. You do. It will keep you whole. Which we need. We need you whole.

This happened in my area, too.

We must take sides.
our local school district sent out a memo today affirming that the various Trump policies can get fucked and they are committed to making this a safe place for LGBT kids

we are lucky to be where we are but it’s really nice to see acknowledgement of what’s happening and pushback on the local level

Years ago, Rep. Al Green told me he thought that like a dying sun, white supremacy would burn brightest before it finally burned out and that this is why these racists and extremists are seemingly so loud, dying to control everyone and everything today.

I believe it is possible.

Libertarianism is attractive to young white men because it's presumably egalitarian, intellectually shallow, and supports the status quo, which means it's easy to follow and practice. It falls apart when you understand the world does not end two meters below your feet and that other humans are real.
I don't really believe the "if you're young and conservative [...]" quip, but there does seem to be a lot of evidentiary weight to suggest that it's okay to have a Libertarian phase when you're young, but only as long as you grow out of it.

(As opposed to evolving into a fascist.)
