Ok, I think I can officially say I have now seen an aurora, tho not an especially bright one—but also, this time I didn’t break my leg, so I rate this as ‘better than Iceland’ (sorry 🇮🇸, I still love you, but… broken leg…):

Aurora Borealis as seen by my phone camera. A green fringe on the horizon, framed by silhouettes of trees and brightly lit houses. A vivid magenta flare beyond the green. Another view of the aurora. Nice streaks in both the magenta and green layers. A zoomed out view after much of the green had faded, at a moment when some long magenta streaks appeared A zoomed out view showing a larger chunk of sky with localized red areas in a haze of green and turquoise.

Took a break from late night homework to see if I could spot the aurora borealis and omg. Couldn’t see it super well, but it’s still so amazing. I’ve never seen it before, even faintly, being from Texas and all.

Northern Virginia is still fairly far south, so I was surprised. Space is so cool 🥺💜
