Yes and gazans only used it when their flag was banned. Once their flag wasn't banned, they didn't use the watermelon anymore. But the use of the watermelon by white people in the US was only started when they protested a Black man. It is unequivocally racist to use it in the US.

If your response to people saying "Hey, this thing is offensive" is to say "LOL no it's not you don't understand context" then you aren't trying to build bridges or gain support. Which is criminal, because there are a lot of people who want to support Palestine who can't support their "allies."

Here's the thing: Palestinian activists have had years now to learn that watermelon is not a neutral/positive symbol for Black Americans. Their continued use of it at this point cannot be read as anything other than racism.
