#WATO interview with Ophir Falk on BBC Radio 4 re. Palestine is a hard listen today. Lots of talk about the necessity for Hamas to lay down arms, but in reality the situation isn’t that simple - thousands of citizens - mostly not aligned to Hamas now have reason to throw stones, not shoot bullets.

Pretty confident the BBC didn’t edit his actions, despite editing his speech.

It’s not like he enjoyed a public sense of innocence & absence of criticism for inciting J6 prior to the Panorama doc.

Trump’s reputation hasn’t been diminished by anyone except himself.

Little tip for Wes Streeting: if you want doctors to stop striking (& leaving this country in droves) stop insulting them. Try: 'We value & respect our doctors & feel very saddened that they've felt the need to take this action. We stand ready to return to negotiate with them at any time.'

60,000 people – 0.001% of the world’s population – control three times as much wealth as the entire bottom half of humanity.

Top 10% earn more than the other 90%.

They control govts, means of production; inflict civil strife, deaths; thwart possibilities of democracy.

Tax the rich.
Just 0.001% hold three times the wealth of poorest half of humanity, report finds
Data from World Inequality Report also showed top 10% of income-earners earn more than the other 90%

@premnsikka.bsky.social gets it. Poverty is generational and inherited. Fairer distribution of tangible assets and resources is key. As someone who previously voted Labour, I have zero faith in the current Govt. to redress the systemic inequalities.
UK Govt plan to reduce child poverty is welcome but that requires reduction in parental poverty.

That can't be done without equitable distribution of income and wealth, stronger trade unions, progressive taxation, decent housing, education, healthcare, jobs and sound economy.

Who will do that?
To tackle child poverty the government must deal with parental poverty
Labour's child poverty strategy offers some welcome measures, but it won't address the factors keeping families trapped in poverty

Godwin’s Law doesn’t apply when the comparison is genuinely relevant.

Increasingly, aspects of US political culture & the authoritarian structure of govt. powers, are echoing the actions and behaviours of mid-1930s Germany.

This comparison would’ve been unconscionable once. It’s now commonplace.

Quite happy to have my social media under scrutiny as a condition of entry into the USA.

So for the record: I believe the Trump administration is an authoritarian government, in the pocket of Putin, and a liability to the rest of the world.

It is an established fact that those attacking the capitol on J6 were inspired by Trump’s words: www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcn... (c.2022)

Yes, the #Panorama edit was misleading, but it doesn’t alter the fact that convicted insurrectionists drew inspiration from Trump’s words.
