Using a single jobs site, one on which a small minority of NHS doctors' jobs will be posted, as an evidence base is a cheap attempt to get a headline. You just need to look at the real data... [2/2]

This is misleading reporting.

Doctors have had worse pay cuts in real terms since 2008 than other sectors - something easily confirmed by looking at NHS earnings data. [1/2] t.co/uGLLYqi7fX

@drkatie.bsky.social, chair of the BMA GP committee said “The 10-Year Plan for the NHS is heavily reliant on some things which technology and remote working cannot solve. In-person consultations with a fully qualified GP are irreplaceable.”

With hundreds of home-grown GPs actively seeking NHS work in the UK, the Government should be using existing funds to ensure GPs we have in the country see patients face-to face.

For too long doctors have been made to feel unable to report safety critical issues relating to working hours. This has led to thousands of hours completely unrecognised. Doctors have been undervalued, and patient safety has been potentially put at risk.

Strike action is always a last resort, now we need the Government to come to the negotiating table to fix the jobs crisis and end pay erosion.

Dr Jack Fletcher on BBC Breakfast this morning talking about resident doctors in England voting to extend their mandate for strike action.
February 3, 2026 at 12:52 PM
Resident doctors in England have voted overwhelmingly to continue industrial action for another six months.

This vote is about years of pay being eroded and a growing jobs crisis that’s leaving many fully trained doctors without work.
