I went through all the protest bills in Congress this session. Most are brought by GOP & increase penalties for protest - save one named for a Jan 6 rioter that bars detention for political protesters. Only 2 Democratic bills protect protesters - both from Ilhan Omar theintercept.com/2025/06/11/p...
As 75 Democrats Vote to Praise ICE, Ilhan Omar Wants to Hold Police Accountable for Protest Abuses
Trying to pass laws to defend protesters’ rights is a lonely battle on Capitol Hill.

Greetings! I’m in downtown Los Angeles on 2nd and Los Angeles. CHP and a bearcat are blocking a nearby 7/11; sounds like there’s a larger protest nearby but this block is beginning to see people amassing. A firework was just thrown from a nearby balcony.

BREAKING: Federal agents in plain clothes and unmarked cars tried to snatch 1st graders from LA elementary schools—told staff they had “parental consent.”

They lied. When pressed, they HID THEIR IDS. DHS admits they sent them. This wasn’t a welfare check. It was a test run for a police state.

Between the fires and these protests, I hope this year teaches everyone that most of the shit talking you hear about California and more specifically, LA, comes from racists and gentrifying transplants. Most people love living here and would do anything to protect it.

Of course the IDF was never going to allow the Madleen to sail up to the Gaza shoreline, in the same way that of course Stephen Miller was always going to try to attack protesters. That's irrelevant. The thing that people need to get a grip about is that these are both bad things.

It is quite funny seeing some of the worst people cry about how this platform is dying when it’s only been recently that it’s effectively replaced Twitter for getting useful information.

People really like to start tossing the bubble term around when their shitty ideas get any pushback.

beyond the thin veneer of concern behind all of these opeds is the much simpler truth that their authors desperately want to describe something that is very obviously their problem (fewer people want to post in the venues they like more) as though it were our problem

This, and it's what's missing from all the violence/non-violence/optics conversations: we need to make these guys have an absolutely atrocious time, and you can do 99% of that just by being where they are when they get there. Make them see the enemy in everyone they drive past
I think people are sleeping on how catastrophically bad ICE morale is right now.

Begging Monday morning protests quarterbacks to understand that “non-violence” is an organized tactic for intentionally exposing yourself to state violence and not an paradigm for judging whether you approve of the people who experienced that violence unbidden
