5 years after the J6 attack on the Capitol, the threat to American democracy hasn't faded, it's grown more dangerous. Political violence has surged, trust in democratic institutions has plummeted to historic lows, and leading democracy experts now classify the U.S. as an "electoral autocracy."

The President does not have power to wage war. He was already guilty of child sexual abuse & ripping the Constitution to shreds, & now, he’s a mass murderer.

Impeachment, conviction & removal are not enough. Trump & his enablers must be punished. No War in Venezuela. New York Nuremberg instead.
Per reporting- US officials confirm that the United States launched military strikes on Venezuela, these bombings serving as a hideous extension of the regime’s illegal murders at sea.

Happy holidays from the Starbucks picket line!

We're STILL on ULP strike, and just this week, 19 more stores filed for a union election.✊🔥

DON'T BUY STARBUCKS at ANY location until the company resolves their 100s of outstanding unfair labor practices. NO CONTRACT, NO COFFEE!

"Science is being destroyed across many agencies" say federal researchers.

For my latest @nature.com piece, I spoke to 19 different scientists across EPA, NOAA, NIH, NASA, and USGS to document how science is being dismantled across US federal agencies.
Dismantling of US federal agencies will ‘destroy science’
From NASA to the National Institutes of Health, federal agencies conduct research that universities cannot. Agency scientists speak out about the irreplaceable facilities, institutional knowledge and ...

As a library worker I can't stress enough how big of a deal this is.

Do you know how many copies of items a library system buys? It's ridiculous! And those numbers can really help authors.
TAPS SCREEN

For like the zillionth time: Libraries are FREE for you, but WE still get compensated for our work!!
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

So did this. They'll obviously appeal yes. It's not a full win and I'm not foolish enough to believe they won't try to use the maps anyway.

But I'll take this small win here. Because if this holds... ooooh boy!
Federal judges block Texas from using its new US House map in the 2026 midterms
A panel of three federal judges has blocked Texas from using a new congressional map that Republicans drew in hopes of picking up five U.S. House seats.

Posting this as a reminder to myself to grab one when I get home from work.
Hi, it's me again

I have these calendars. They are so pretty. @megstampede.bsky.social made them. They have a bunch of animals on them, like crows and humpbacks and cuttlefish and salamanders.

Each month has facts about the animals AND actions you can take to help them

Libraries host food drives, have reading challenges with certificates for free burgers & pizza to encourage kids to read, have lunch-at-the-library programs in the Summer, have seed lending libraries to help grow your own food…

Libraries are adamant our neighbors be fed, that they never go hungry 💛

Most science degrees never require students to learn how to communicate their work to the public. That gap fuels confusion, mistrust, and missed opportunities to protect lives. Let's change it. Sign the petition to make communication + public engagement training a degree requirement. bit.ly/3LbnfHB

If you’re calling these animals a “sea flap flap,” your taxonomy is out of date and you really need to get with the times.
