ICE has been cracking down hard across the vast expanse of the greater Chicago area, and I wrote a little bit about what you need to understand about what it’s like here now. Plus, I compiled some resources for locals to get alerts and whistles. dansinker.com/posts/202…

6 days after Soviet troops invaded Czechoslovakia in 1968, a Prague paper published these “10 Commandments”:
‘When a Soviet soldier comes to you, YOU:
1. Don’t know
2. Don’t care
3. Don’t tell
4. Don’t have
5. Don’t know how to
6. Don’t give
7. Can’t do
8. Don’t sell
9. Don’t show
10. Do nothing’

this is useful but i think it misses a dynamic in dem-dominated states/cities. in chicago, the “centrist” is always almost an R. and i think that’s important bc is if the DNC olds just ran their optimal candidates as straight D-defector Rs in Purple/R states, we’d have a healthier country.
the NYC mayoral election might be an opportunity to reset some terms.

the Cuomo faction are not “liberals” but “centrists”.

the Lander faction are “liberals”

the Mamdani faction are “leftists”

if you’re mad at centrists but complaining about liberals you are mostly pissing on the wrong people

First, Steves finds a way to talk about institutions and oligarchy that is dirt simple:

1. Institutions are PUBLIC WEALTH. They are our shared wealth, dammit.
2. Billionaires can't stand wealth they don't control.
3. So they are going to dismantle our public wealth to better bleed us dry

I donated to this. Medical expenses are one of the hardest things for anybody to deal with, and film writers give us a lot of happiness for free. “Critic” is a word that suggests negativity, but Robert Daniels and Marya Gates have mostly been givers, for me.
Hi all, hate to do a GoFundMe so close to taxes, but while Marya and I were out of town our cat Miss Fanny was rushed to the emergency room.

She was saved but we had to take on a lot of debt to do it, and we’d appreciate whatever help you can provide.

Gerry Connolly keeps getting smaller but his mustache stays the same size how
CNN: Hakeem Jeffries, asked if he had confidence in Chuck Schumer, wouldn't answer. If that's not disarray, then what is?

GERRY CONNOLLY: I don't call that disarray. That's New York politics...Disarray is a really big word

“I, you leader, will not organize a march, but I will gladly march at the front of it!”
Schumer: "If he defies the Supreme Court, then we are in uncharted territory ... our entire democracy is at risk. I believe that if Donald Trump should defy the courts, the public will rise up. Democrats will fight it in every single way ... autocrats only succeed if the public lets them."

Ah yes, no better way to embody Dylan’s style than wearing his denim jacket from “Hearts of Fire.”
Stories In The Press: Timothée Chalamet wins a vintage denim jacket worn by Bob Dylan in 'Hearts of Fire' for $25,400, showcasing his dedication to embodying the artist's style.
