AI-generated "actor" in ad for "responsible sports betting" during Olympic Curling Trials. 🫠😠

Apparently not so responsible that it's worth paying an actor for 10s of pouring tea and then looking at a phone.

The fact that the thing we're calling artificial intelligence *can't do math* and yet we're jamming it into programs that successfully *have done math* for decades, then warning people against using the AI to do math, seems like an excellent summary of where we are.
Good thing no one uses Microsoft Excel for anything related to legal, regulatory or compliance business functions

Late to the party, but Rosetta 2 is pretty cool.

I just ported github.com/sgraham/dyib... to macOS (mostly various hack-and-slash to get it to parse system headers). \

This is a very good idea and a good use of topped-up military budgets. If it’s not the Americans and the Russians, it’ll be a climate disaster. Increasing the amount of catastrophe-preparedness in the population has no downside.
“We must be prepared to defend our sovereignty-not just with military spending, but with a population that is engaged, trained and ready.” Great piece by @petermacleod.bsky.social about how Canada needs a Civil Defence Force where every Canadian has a role to play. 🇨🇦💪 thetyee.ca/Opinion/2025...

Nov's unemployment figure of 4.2% "counted homeless people doing occasional work as 'employed.' ... [If you include] unemployed people who can’t find anything but part-time work or who make a poverty wage (roughly $25,000), the percentage is actually 23.7 percent."
