I have taught at both Brown and Columbia and right now I cannot tell which of my employers struck a worse bargain with the Trump Administration. I devoted 25 years of my life to the often wonderful students at these institutions, only to see the universities fold in a matter of months.
The “deal” that Brown made with the Trump admin is much more extreme than is being reported. It includes government oversight of course evaluations and no barrier to government interference in faculty hiring.

Read it for yourself here:

Young refuseniks burn their IOF draft papers in the middle of Tel Aviv

They refuse to serve in the Israeli Occupation Forces, and are willing to go to military jail for their position. The new generation of refuseniks is supported by the older, many of them spent months in jail already

It’s a time of monsters
HHS announced today they will consider Head Start a welfare program, not an education program, and will subject it to new citizenship requirements. This goes against decades of legal precedence that all children in America have a right to education. Announcement here. www.hhs.gov/press-room/p...

A reminder that the @nytimes.com told New Yorkers to not rank Mamdani at all, & instead endorsed former hedge fund manager Whitney Tilson.

Tilson sits at a whopping .8%.

Corporate media trust is dead. They killed themselves by failing to fulfill their promise of holding the powerful accountable.

Zohran’s victory is an earthquake. The left everywhere must dedicate itself to an insurgency against Dem incumbents. The Dem establishment has lost credibility w/ its base in the face of fascist threat. The base is looking leftward for new leadership. We are the opposition party.

Cuomo’s biggest donors are cheering Trump on. These are the MAGA warmongers who would have his ear in City Hall.

There are many reasons I want the US to adopt a multi-party system, but one of the biggest is that I don’t want to share a party with:

- Senators who’d vote for Trump’s crypto corruption bill

- Leadership that rolls over in the face of fascism, or

- Voters who would return Cuomo to power

Leaving the Broward Transitional Center, I saw how little ICE cares about immigrant detainees.

The recent death in the Broward facility is just a tragic example of what happens when we let this government go unchecked.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

Didn’t get a chance to post this earlier, but there was a huge turnout in support of Kilmar Abrego Garcia at the federal courthouse.

From my seat in the jury room, I heard the supporters outside chanting throughout the hearing.

Yes, and…. Harvard has already adopted the IHRA definition of antisemitism and removed faculty from leadership posts at the Ctr for Middle Eastern studies.
Are we protecting higher ed & free inquiry while retaining the “Palestine Exception”?
Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

My detained client was scheduled for a bond hearing this AM in a MA immigration court. He wasn't brought in, and he and his case have disappeared.

I then received this notice of activity on a nonexistent docket in which his name was changed to "N/A"

It's all happening a lot faster than I expected

NYU didn’t address the incident for several hours. Elected officials quick to condemn antisemitism have said nothing.
