@cornellbirds.bsky.social FYI it looks like the Migration Alert forecasting tool on birdcast.info isn’t working. I repeatedly get a “no forecast data is available at this location” regardless of the city I enter. Might be a glitch?

Who amongst us has not sat down at a little Trastevere trattoria, wolfed down a heaping plate of cacio e pepe, mopped that up with fresh pane e olio, and then dozed off on a warm spring afternoon
Wearing a bright blue suit, texting, and then sleeping at Pope Francis’s funeral. What an embarrassing mess.

This all feels like a very hard Christian, “I don’t need to know, Jesus take the wheel, wheat from chafe, go with God” sort of approach. Which checks out. Horrifyingly.

Who is going to tell them that parts of the US were once Mexico, not to even scratch the other problematic elements under the surface of their statement 🤔
I didn't say all.
I also said I'm generalizing and comparing it to other countries (most of whom agree with me!)
That said, Mexican food is not American. I hope you are aware of that

You know what’s helpful in a time of crisis when emotions run high? Verifying, confirming and fact-checking before publishing. An established news organization should know better.
ICE showed up Friday morning to Hamline Elementary School, located in the New City neighborhood, principal Natasha Ortega said at a news conference.

“We will not open our doors for ICE, and we are here to protect our children and make sure they have access to an excellent education,” Ortega said.

For every Chicagoan (and non) on here freaking out, this is some incredibly important context. Like everything with regards to the GOP, you have to think like a marketer. Headlines are the end goal — perception assumed as reality — collateral (human) damage be damned.
The Wall Street Journal says there will be a splashy ICE operation in Chicago on Tuesday.

While the headline is lurid, the actual operation described in the piece (100-200 agents) seems not that unusual for ICE (google Operation Cross-check). Expect a PR blitz, though.

Fwiw, re: Jimmy Carter, I had no idea of his political affiliation. Yes, I could intuit it based on his actions, but it’s hardly mentioned in any of the coverage this past week or generally. My impression might be due in part to Reagan being in office when I was born, but remarkable nonetheless.

The mistake being made about Meta is to say they're just doing this to make conservatives happy. They've been doing that a decade+. Removing fact checkers and bringing back political content means there will be more stuff that gets more people mad which creates more engagement. Growth at all costs.
