I’ve been saying since the beginning of this admin that they’re going to start putting those statues back up. New Confederate statues would serve similar purposes to their boom time of 1900-20: statements of physical dominance of public space, designed to unite in-groups and intimidate out-groups.
This is 100% a Make the Confederacy Great Again EO. It's all abt resurrecting the statues of the generals who committed treason to join the Confederacy. I almost admire the word play audacity in the service of evil in their use of the phrase "false reconstruction" to describe their goal.

The thing that gets me about this, too, is that white/rural drug users are simultaneously used as a rhetorical tearjerking tool by the right but they *hate* them.

If you've lived in an area afflicted by opioids, you know MAGAs would prefer addicts drop dead before receiving, e.g., fent test strips.
Not the first person to make this observation, but it's so striking how the media covered the crack epidemic as a problem caused by black/urban drug users and the fentanyl epidemic as a problem imposed externally on white/rural drug users.

As a SFF writer who is very interested in religion, in fiction and in real life:

Any attempt to lay out rules or laws or even guidelines for "how to depict religion in fiction" has not thought the matter through, IMO.

I took a basic drawing class and most of it was "look at the thing. No LOOK."

There’s an Urdu name for a “Jack of all trades” that translates to “every talent Lord.” A Korean version is “eight direction beauty.” But my favourite name for someone who tries their hand at lots of different things is the Lithuanian Barbė devyndarbė. It means “Barbie nine jobs”

This whole thread is painfully credulous. They’re not saying the stock market is less important because the populist pose is genuine; they’re saying that because it’s tanking. If it were rising they’d be crowing nonstop.
As we watch the selling continue on Wall Street today (futures down 400 as I type, but could bounce back!) it’s crucial to understand this Trump Administration’s approach to the stock market, which is dramatically different from his first term.

Crucially, theres no way for america to escape this bind. They cant bring manufacturing back without killing consumption, and then that makes manufacturing even harder. It would be deliberately setting yourself behind other countries for a worse place in the supply chain
Reversing the hollowing out of American manufacturing and the rust belt is an *enormous* task. And may not succeed.
But if you’re going to do it, you’re probably going to have to accept: higher prices, lower corporate profits and a slower growing stock market.
