Tesla lacks ammo in its battle for AI supremacy:
- Lowest margins in the Mag 7
- Only Mag 7 stock whose EPS fell
- $20B capex budget > cash from ops...
-... but only 1/9th Alphabet's budget

Also not impressed by the silly Star Trek bathrooms that "go offline". 3 or 4 of this train's bathrooms are currently... off.

Also also we're now stuck in New Haven doing a "mechanical reset". This on a train that left 25 min late.

New Acelas don't seem ready for prime time, @amtrak.com
Have you ridden the new Acela trains?

I'm finally on one, business class (quiet car, my usual). My first take is that it's way more cramped than the old Acela.

It's definitely a higher-tech experience, but so far it doesn't really feel like a premium experience.

Rivian #$RIVN +26% in premarket now. Wowie.

(They are relentlessly executing amid ridiculous headwinds. Deserved, IMO.)

I’m always skeptical when it seems like the previous owner(s) were afraid to drive it.

I mean, this car is a) 30 years old and b) insanely fun. WTF?

Modest beat. Loss of $0.66/share vs $0.79 expected. Stock bounced. #$RIVN
Rivian #$RIVN reports earnings shortly. I'm expecting results roughly in line with estimates, but the stock closed down over 5%. We'll see.

I think this is my view on "AI" right now:

AI is radium. AI is hydrocortisone.

Both eventually turned out to be very useful in certain circumstances. But the initial urge to put them in everything created a lot of disasters -- and the backlash wasn't great either.
We're gonna destroy 50% of all white collar jobs, college graduates are never going to find work again and Meta is going to force feed so many AI-driven ads into your eyeballs you won't be able to breathe

But AI could also like do some good in the world

If you want people to be 'reasonable' about a subject, I highly recommend not stealing from them, attempting to coerce them into using a mutilated mockery of their own stolen goods and then sniggering that this will ruin their livelihood.

Um. #$TSLA
So apparently at least 11 senior people (including 2 co-founders) left simultaneously xAI yesterday

Explanations?

1) Incriminating Epstein documents being circulated internally

2) Illegal activities discovered in the business

3) Extraordinary coincidence

all I’m focused on here is “elon musk,” “massive catapult” and “launch into space”
Elon Musk told employees at xAI, his artificial intelligence company, on Tuesday that the company needed a factory on the moon to build A.I. satellites and a massive catapult to launch them into space.

Of course the real reason turns out to be deeply stupid.
This can be read as the Pentagon refusing to deconflict airspace, so the FAA arguably is doing the right thing, though others who are more expert on this should weigh in. cc @faineg.bsky.social

how does it not bother investors that Elon Musk never actually delivers the thing

if he didn't deliver affordable EVs, the 100% solar-powered Superchargers, the "alien dreadnought" factory, the game-changing solar roof, or L5 self-driving why believe he'll deliver data centers in space or whatever?
