If Democrats were smart, they'd embrace being the party of "small government"

"The GOP wants to constantly meddle in your business, they want to inspect your children's genitals, decide who you hire, won't even let a goddamn diner run their business as they see fit."
one of the biggest sea changes amongst republicans in the last 5-10 years or so has been their aggressive refusal to let business owners run their businesses, and that really *is* a huge sea change

In 2024, four women held four-star ranks in the military — the highest levels of the armed forces. Only 10 women have held the highest rank in their military branches in history. Now, there are none.

Of the four women, two of them retired and two were ousted. bit.ly/4i1EWUO

BREAKING—The United States Institute of Peace (USIP) office was just on lockdown for close to an hour while members of the DOGE team tried to enter the building, multiple people have told me. Security has now escorted out remaining staffers who’ve been told to telework until further notice.

At the start of President Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress, Democratic Rep. Al Green of Texas stood up to yell in protest. House Speaker Mike Johnson then directed the sergeant-at-arms to remove Green from the chamber.

The first speech of Trump’s second term in office, while not officially a State of the Union address, is a chance for the president to lay out legislative priorities and tout early achievements.

If you are a federal worker being offered a buyout, I would advise against taking it.

Of course, this is a personal decision for everyone and it’s your choice.

But these offers are a rush job. The legality is questionable and this admin does not keep to its word.

They aren’t firing for a reason.

It's a shame we have to wait so long to see what happens when you realize you took the wrong side and everything you've ever believed in was a dangerously fabricated illusion so you figure out how to help dismantle it from the inside.

So health agencies' communications are paused until February 1st. While it's not uncommon for incoming administration to pause agency communications temporarily, this feels...pointedly long. What can/ should we try to learn about Bird Flu in the meantime? #birdflu

Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce.

Bear with me for a second while I try to explain.
