One small way to try to re-establish social trust would be to transparently disclose *in this very column* that you hung out with Jeffrey Epstein.

In 2024, Tierra Walker was sick and getting sicker. She was also pregnant.

She knew abortion was illegal in Texas, but thought there was an exception for women like her, whose health was at risk. Doctors told her there was no emergency.

Then she died.

“Ticking Time Bomb”: A Pregnant Mother Kept Getting Sicker. She Died After She Couldn’t Get an Abortion in Texas.
Walker is one of several women ProPublica found with underlying health conditions who died when they couldn’t access abortions.

The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

The only people in the world who looked at what the Demcratic Party has been doing over the past decade and thought "now there's a winning strategy" are the British Labour Party, and that's a lot more sad than funny but you do have to admit it's funny
If the objective of being tough on immigration was for Labour to be perceived as more right-wing & nativist, the strategy worked.

❌ Labour was seen as more anti-immigration & more right-wing
❌Immigration became more salient as an issue
❌ But Labour’s perceived competence on immigration fell.

Mamdani should win but he's the latest example of the Democratic Party closing ranks to keep anyone young and exciting and full of energy out of the party - and then they spend countless millions on consultants trying to figure out why they're struggling with young voters

It is 100% carrying water for the opposition to participate in this collective delusion that Dems for some reason need to answer for every teen who throws a rock rather than hold the Trump admin accountable for intentionally creating chaos and breaking the law to stoke violence.

They are in charge.

I am truly ashamed. I am a Trekkie that went to college in northern New England in the 90s, surrounded by Phans, and I had no f-cking idea until now that Frakes played on a Phish track. What the hell was I doing back then? Oh...
If you are a Phish fan and your mom is a Star Trek The Next Generation fan, you should know that Jonathan Frakes (who played Commander Riker) is doing discounted Mother's Day cameos and he WILL tell your mom he played trombone on the Phish song Rikers Mailbox if you ask him to
