No matter what the law says, “Disney” did not create their animations, their workers did. We should support them.
Disney's $1Billion deal with Open AI has rightfully sent many animation workers, and fans, to rage at what this means for the already creatively bankrupt Disney, and the rest of the industry as a whole. And a question we've gotten many times is what can be done to fight this. (1/2) #fuckai

I haven’t read a lot of new comics this year but the Absolute Martian Manhunter collection is amazing. In it, the Manhunter is a disembodied psychedelic drug that portrays itself as Martian because it’s too alien for human consciousness to comprehend

“Here’s your meal, full of delicious lead” I don’t want it. No thank you. “Well, what about if we just use lead in the cooking process? You can’t even taste the lead in the final meal” I’m leaving. “You’re being childish. Soon everyone will be cooking with lead” have you fucking listened to yourself

"This promise of an AI future, is really just a collective anxiety that wealthy people have about how well they're gonna be able to control us in the future."

Incredible words.

Zootopia 2 is the highest grossing Hollywood movie of the year & Kpop Demon Hunters was Netflix's most popular movie of all time, but fuck animators, am I right? I hate reading about how huge & beloved this stuff is while knowing how hard creators have it & how it still isn't broadly taken seriously

Staff turnover is definitive evidence of bad management. This simple fact gets lost when wall street rewards C-suite for juicing quarterly reports with hiring/firing cycles.

AI is NOT inevitable. Keep not using it. Uninstall Copilot from your computer. Refuse to use programs bogged down with it. Complain loudly about it when they shove it into the programs you use. We can starve the slop machines.
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.
