Full summer: native potentilla in the foreground, oakleaf hydrangea, then the regal hosta, queening it over everyone, in the background the cool woods.

Poppies and ostrich ferns. I can’t remember which one this poppy is, but it has a gorgeous ruffled edge and that deep real red, not orange.

"It's high time we stopped thinking politically...and started thinking patriotically as Americans."

These words, spoken by Maine Senator Margaret Chase Smith, ring just as true 75 years later. Today, I declare it’s high time we put aside partisanship and stand up for democracy.

A Two-Bear Morning. My dog Katie chased them up here, mom and yearling. I went out and yelled at them. The mom huffed at me and I huffed back. They are waiting for Katie to go off patrol duty.

This is not normal.

The Administration's arrest of a sitting judge in Wisconsin is a drastic move that threatens the rule of law.

While we don’t have all the details, this is a grave step and undermines our system of checks and balances.

The only appropriate response to this is impeachment and removal from office. Every moment the political press spends spinning out theories about 2026 and immigration polling is a minute they are not spending asking Republicans in Congress about their plans to enforce the rule of law

8/ This is a watershed moment, as Trump thumbs his nose at a Supreme Court ruling, gaslighting the public by pretending his won 9-0 when he lost 9-0.

If we normalize this, there's no end. He can lock up or remove anyone. We will no longer exist in a democracy.
