Just now, a national trans healthcare felony ban for youth has passed the US House, with 10 year prison terms.

3 Dems crossed party lines to vote to jail providers.

4 GOP crossed party lines to vote against.

It is not expected to pass the Senate, where Dems hold filibuster power.

Story to come.

This country is becoming unrecognizable. What we’re seeing is state-funded fear. We’ve warned people: keep filming, go live on social media so these moments are documented and shared. This wasn’t a case involving masked ICE agents—but that’s happening too.

Rep Connolly: There are about 20 other blue states that are also staunchly pro-trans rights, and they are not afraid to vote no on amendments and bills.

You vote no on the batshit things. You let them speak, have their say, and shut it down.

You don't play games with trans people's lives.

It occurs to me that as an Armenian in diaspora I can say a few things about what to do when a settler colonialist state tries to erase all trace of a hated minority group from historical sites and public life.

But the fact that I'm standing here telling you that is proof aplenty: *there is hope*.

Whenever the media or transphobes talk about mental health and suicide rates of trans kids, they are always deliberately concealing the fact that trans healthcare brings trans kids to the same place as cis kids on these things

In case you are wondering what you can do to- speaking out is super important! Staying silent while the most vulnerable kids are being dehumanized is certainly a choice.
If you are a straight, cis person and you feel that fucking knot in your stomach about what the administration is doing right now to trans people and trans children, you have to at the very fucking least say out loud in front of your friends and peers in real life "this is fucked up."

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

The trans community needs Americans to complicate your understanding of transgender healthcare (or just leave our healthcare alone).
There is not a single experience of transition, and no blanket policy can EVER capture all of our lived experience.

A very important reminder for us all
That guilt you feel about not being able to support every GoFundMe for folks who are suffering?

That’s actually rage at a corrupt system refusing to support its people - a rage carefully steered away from the system so you struggle with yourself & not with the institutions that deserve it

Which is why “the voters voted for this” is not always the answer. Either we have a set of unshakeable core principles and values that undergird our democracy or we leave even the most basic elements of democracy and dignity up to a plebiscite.
Every time I see one of these appeals to the polls for policy arguments, I always remember than a majority of Americans didn't support Interracial Marriage until fucking 1997.

One lesson that this year reinforced is that murder, one on one, is bad, and mass murder by our enemies is bad, but mass murder, as long as it’s carried out by our state or our allies or our prison industrial complex or our corporations, is fine.

The issue with Walmart isn’t DEI, it’s the fact that in nine states alone, Walmart had 14,500 employees on SNAP and 10,350 on Medicaid.

Instead of attacking corporations for diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, people should be calling out the low wages.
