Personal hot take: it would have been much preferable if these talks *actually collapsed". The UNFCCC COP process is *manifestly* not fit for purpose and *must* be reformed. But with this "last ditch agreement" any prospect of reform has been stymied. Yet again.

We are so proud of our colleague and Head of Advocacy, Dr Elaine McGoff on all she has done, and continues to do, in clearly and unequivocally advocating for vital water quality safeguards and following the science. Clean water is a critical resource for us all.
I had the a welcome opportunity to move beyond the standard Punch & Judy media setup to properly look under the derogation hood, & explore why the Government measures are failing our waters & failing our farmers.

Back in the early nineties all across the EU a rule was introduced to protect rivers and streams from agricultural run off. At the last count 7,000 out of 137,000 farms in Ireland had received a derog...

This, in a nutshell, is where we’re at. All the lies, the distraction, NGO-blaming and drive towards even further deregulation is to cover the naked fact that, in Ireland, big polluters pull the strings and our politicians just nod along.

Nobody else in the country gets such free, uncritical access to Irish media as MOL, and it’s terrifying.

We are still paying for the 2008 financial crisis in Ireland which was caused in part by reckless regulatory oversight of bankers & developers.

Fast forward & Bertie Ahern nearly ran in the presidential election & we are being told we need to deregulate & cut taxes for developers. Dangerous times.

It's rather like stressing "no need to fully stop smoking"!

Freshly laid tarmac, freshly painted death lane.

How is this an acceptable standard in 2025 @dubcitycouncil.bsky.social? Paint ≠ infrastructure.

We deserve wide, fully protected cycle lanes that support a healthier, safer, more sustainable city.

This simply isn’t good enough.

Rumour is a dirty political deal is afoot whereby Ireland gets Nitrates Derogation renewal in return for approving the EU Mercosur deal.
Makes nasty sense: IFA etc & rural TDs get to say "best we could get" to rural voters, meanwhile 🇮🇪🇪🇺 Big Dairy profit from both. Nature & health FAIL of course.
For those in any doubt, the ongoing nitrates derogation debate is not about the science on water quality, it's political wrangling, with our rivers, lakes and seas caught in the crossfire.
