Thanks so much to @gossjam.bsky.social for organising Target Book Day! It was wonderful to be in a room that felt so genuinely joyous and celebratory - all championing these funny little books that turned us all into readers and writers. What a wholly lovely time!

Still making my way through @sjtownend.bsky.social debut collection SICK GIRL SCREAMS. Why is it taking this long? It's so emotionally raw, so unyielding, that I can only read one story every few days. This books deserves more attention (and includes a great intro by @robertshearman.bsky.social )

Look! It's finally here! After the longest, most painful labour ever, I birthed a book.
It's feeding well and gaining weight, but it sleeps with its eyes open and wails like a banshee if I put it down.

I finished two books today. One as a writer, and one as a reader. I think both experiences are satisfying, but the lovely thing about finishing a book as a reader is that you can still be surprised by the ending.

November 21. I got excited, thinking this was the shortest day of the year. And that from this point on the sunlight will get longer and the weather will get warmer and we’re on the sure climb towards the Spring. …Then I remembered that’s *December*, we’ve another month of this first. Bugger.

I still feel about BlueSky the way I feel about swimming at the beach. I keep on paddling and then backing off from the merest wave. And I stand on the sand watching all my mates swimming and laughing and playing with huge inflatable ducks, and saying the water is lovely - and I paddle out further.
