#Impeachment2025 #NoKingsNow our only response. If we don't use the constitution's tool for preventing executive overreach, we will lose the ability to do so before the midterms can possibly save us.

WYR convince 16 GOP senators to elevate JD, or fight a civil war against the largest ever military?
So much more room for protestors!

Curious to see if any of the #python / #PyPI elders on here can share some stories about how packaging came to be (c. ~2015?), and specifically the mandatory support for multi-package distributions, something I’ve never seen in the wild.

Why is analytic philosophy so "boring" compared to continental philosophy? You know what I mean. Are there any controversial analytical philosphers out there with some kind of really provoactive"vibe"? You know what I mean.

Fascinating+infuriating example of what a lack of #PhilSci can do to someone, centered on:

> The notion that drug addiction is a brain disease... encapsulates all that’s wrong with today’s science in this area. There is absolutely no data in humans to show that drug addiction is a brain disease.
Carl Hart is a neuroscientist and at Columbia University who studies behavioral and neuropharmacological effects of drugs in humans.

"I am now entering my fifth year as a regular heroin user,” he writes. “I do not have a drug-use problem. Never have." 🧪
I Am a Heroin User. I Do Not Have a Drug Problem
Carl Hart says drug addiction is often distorted by scientists and the media.

> While she regularly talks to Trump by phone,

??? Imagining those regular conversations boggles the mind with disgust and horror. Charitably, maybe they’re just being racist together for a bit? Is that something intentional racists do for fun?

> If Congress were to enact one month of Medicare for All, could it later assert that extending it in perpetuity is free?
I think focusing on current law versus current policy is getting it wrong.

The key takeaway is Republicans are breaking the rules of the Senate so they can pass giant tax cuts for the rich while taking away health care from the sick and food from the needy.

Senate Republicans Are Ignoring Senate Rules To Cut Taxes for the Rich
The Senate majority made clear its intent to add trillions of dollars to the national debt while taking food away from the hungry and health care away from the poor.

Thanks Yahoo!. I guess it really is China's fault for responding predictably, and Powell for vaguely musing about obvious truths!

Latest "fun" #USHistory fact: the first woman to serve in the US senate was also the last slave holder to serve (not to mention a noted proponent of lynching). It took Georgia 100 years to elect another woman to the Senate...

The evidence is clear: Tomorrow's nationwide #HandsOff mobilization is the latest—and potentially largest—sign of growing momentum and resistance to the Trump administration's illegal and unconstitutional power grab.
Our research shows: the resistance is alive and well | Erica Chenoweth, Jeremy Pressman and Soha Hammam

New definition of womanhood just dropped

x is a woman iff:
1. x can have a baby (under certain circumstances).
2. x has a quality.
3. x is much smarter than a man.
4. x doesn’t even give a man a chance at success.
5. x has, in many cases, been treated very badly.

Part of what I'm up to in all this stuff is trying to say that fungibility deserves a lot more of our attention (and more specifically that sometimes its linked to an essentialising mindset, and sometimes its not).
I guess I would have to say this was worth it in the end - virtually ever major thing I've published in the past 5 years has been about the significance of fungibility as a form of objectification

Wow TIL William James was *super* wrong about “Great Man” history, with a decidedly eugenicist tint to it at that.

Anyone on #PhilSky know enough to defend where he was coming from w/ this argument? I kinda loved him as one of the creators of psychology, but never read this piece…
