Nicole McLaughlin's talk this morning was a much needed, thoughtful, creative, and positive palate cleanser after the bummer that was Boz yesterday.

Gonna be rough out there for a while, Nashville.

I'm warm and in a house. Open Table Nashville seeks to help fellow Nashvillians who aren't. We'll vouch for this org. Giving feels good. And it's going to be extremely cold this week.

Big thanks to @noisenotmusic.bsky.social for turning me on to Breathing Heavy. This one's absolutely insane and I love it.

The federal civilian worker payroll totaled $271 billion in 2022.

The annual cost of permanently extending Trump's tax cuts that primarily benefited rich individuals? $400 billion.

Keep this in mind as Trump and DOGE lay off thousands of federal workers.

Crazy to see alcohol’s impact on HRV. First chart: December, lots of drinking. Second: dry January—HRV rises, plateaus, dips, then steadies within my baseline. Guess alcohol is bad, y’all. 😐.

Turns out, it won't be AI that forces creatives out of a job. It'll be the bigoted, misogynist, self serving garbage culture being championed by tech oligarchs trickling down, making it impossible for thoughtful, inclusive creatives to stomach a tech job. 🤢

We got to see our niece Hartley pull off an incredible performance as Tigerlily in a really cool feminist/anti-colonialism adaptation of Peter Pan. This kid is so talented. Can't wait to see what she does next. Definitely a proud uncle & aunt moment.

David Lynch gave us the language we needed to better articulate the indescribable strangeness of our shared reality. “Lynchian” is so overused because it’s a viscerally understandable word without any known synonyms. I can’t imagine a more beautiful artistic legacy than that.

Really digging this Randy Grief reissue from Tribe Tapes. Wasn't familiar with Mr. Grief's work prior to listening, but this tape packs a ton into a C-60. Gives you hints of Maurizio Bianchi, Steve Reich, John Carpenter and Master/Slave Relationship, but unique and cohesive. Very nice.

(What) Gayle, Parker and Ali play is self-determination music of the highest order, which, by definition, is the thing that most scares the shit out of the American white colonialist power structure...
