the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.
Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?

The corruption of the US Supreme Court has arguably been the most serious single contributor to the US's transformation into autocracy
Reading an article titled "Why didn't Brazilian democracy die?" and a key part of the story is a Supreme Court that actually did its job

"We're all throwing dildos at women athletes to promote our memecoin" really puts a fine point on not just how sexist, mean and stupid so much of right now is, but also the grim degree to which we're just inundated with Stuff a 15-Year-Old Dipshit Would Think is Cool. A confederacy of Beavises.

“We’re the good guys,” I tell myself as a 6-year-old leukemia patient pees his pants in fear. I adjust my black mask and sunglasses in the mirror, making sure to hide my identity. “I am not evil,” I whisper.
Monstrous:

"They were crying in fear. One of the agents at one point lifted up his shirt, which displayed the gun that he was carrying....The 6-year-old boy was terrified to see the gun. He urinated on himself and wet all his clothing. No one offered him a change of clothing for many hours."
ICE arrested a 6-year-old boy with leukemia at immigration court. His family is suing.
A Honduran mother and her two children — ages 6 and 9 — sued the Trump administration over their arrest at Los Angeles Immigration Court, the first lawsuit challenging the arrests of children under a ...

Boy the Dodgers are really bathing themselves in glory this week. Totally misunderstanding and abandoning their fanbase in favor of corporate cowardice. Woof.

But the money will keep rolling in so who cares, I guess.

I don’t really have words to explain how it feels to see Kristi Noem standing on a street in East LA that looks like the street I grew up on in East LA with an invading military force trying to kidnap people who look like the neighbors I grew up with.

It stays with you, spiritually.

Like seriously. I know to a lot of people it sounded like a far-left rallying cry before, but if we get through this, we need to Abolish ICE much like a democratizing Germany got rid of the Gestapo or the collapsing USSR got rid of the KGB
🚨NEW: @cbsnews.com reports ICE is arresting people who can't even legally be deported and holding them without enough food or water in a federal building BASEMENT in Los Angeles.

Families dutifully attending check-ins with ICE are being arrested and held for days, forced to sleep on the floor.

I talk a lot about “level setting” and how it’s important to steer public conversation towards the level each individual topic deserves to be entertained at. Here’s a great example of what that looks like in practice:

Explains a lot about where we are as a country that people are still willing to believe trickle-down economics is going to happen but ignore the dozens of massive, high-quality studies showing that just giving poor people money actually does solve their problems.
The results of another BIG pilot are now available. This one was in L.A. and provided $1,000/mo for a year (2022 to 2023) to 3,200 people and compared them to a control group of 5,000. Every household started in poverty and with kids or expecting a baby.

The results speak for themselves. 👇
Los Angeles gave families $1,000 a month in the biggest basic income pilot in the country. Now the results are in.
A basic income pilot in Los Angeles saw increases in the quality of life for participants and their families. Some even left abusive situations.

If you think a just-fertilized ovary is entitled to life but are indifferent to what happens to a kidnapped 4-year-old with cancer, sent to a dangerous country without meds, you don’t give a fuck about the lives of children. You are just in a cult that fetishizes being against abortions.
