Most humanities research — including the best, most world leading research by people we’ve all heard of — is unfunded, by which they mean produced as part of one’s routine job as a university lecturer, just “not funded by a big competitive external grant”.

This would mean the death of research.

Problematic (to put it kindly) on so many levels.
1) there isn't really 'unfunded' research. The REF is there to allocate resources so that research is possible without a grant.

Khameleon Classics is quite a contained series of episodes – just 30 in total. They explore the obsession with Classics, what counts and why, the complicated legacy of colonialism, and how we might use ancient history to fight for a fairer society today.

Cops are shooting impact munitions madly. They're shooting at people who are simply moving along on sidewalks and leaving the area as they were ordered to do. No one in this video is throwing anything at police.

Mounted cops are coming up behind people and hitting them with extra long riot batons.
Incredibly chaotic scene here in downtown Los Angeles where LAPD have just charged protesters with horses while others fire munitions.

So this has become a short thread of archaeologists talking about all the interesting & important aspects of research which are not excavation. In fact excavation has always been only a small aspect of our work.

But my Q to non-archaeologists, 'what would draw you to these stories' is unanswered>
I will always repost things about post ex because I think it's so overshadowed by excavation on social media (and trad media) non-archaeological friends, what would draw you to these stories?
We're gearing up for our #Glencoe2025 season in less than a fortnight! You can find out more about our post ex from the 2024 season here including exciting results from our scientists and collaborators! glencoeandrannochenvirons.wordpress.com/2025/06/11/i...
