I'm hijacking this to support an opinion I already had - I believe that possessing colonies only serve to hurt you and delay your social, political, and material development. I do not believe colonies, in this time, facilitate trade.

It's a start - though personally, I'd like to see it set higher than $17 per hour. Our labour's worth more than $7.25 an hour. It's worth more than $17.00 an hour, but I'd rather be paid $17 than $7.25.
It is absolutely unconscionable that the federal minimum wage in 2025 is STILL $7.25
Congress introduced new legislation that would raise the minimum wage to $17 by 2030.
Americans working full time should not live in poverty. Congress must fight to pass this law.

I grew up in 1980s Soviet Union. I was just a kid, but old enough to have living memory of what it felt like and parents who experienced life there as full adults. I never thought I'd experience anything resembling that in modern US, but the parallels are becoming too much to ignore.
