I wish teenagers had a social media platform like Tumblr in the mid-2010s. I can’t even imagine what growing up on a broadly anti-woke internet would have done to my brain

Rape is a vital and encouraged function of the carceral system in the United States.
When the guy running the country has said he would threaten journalists with rape until they give up their sources, it’s not surprising that lower-level goons would do the same thing.

The people doing messaging for Democrats don’t seem to realize how fractured our media ecosystem is. There’s zero excuse for not knowing this in the year 2025. The majority of people get the majority of their news on social media that is curated for them individually by an algorithm

I just watched a ton of TikTok nostalgia compilations and it actually made me so sad. Of course they were intermittently interrupted by Blake Lively hate vids so then I cursed the app into the ground. Nuance

I see this idea a lot in gender violence cases where people believe that the most truthful version of events is somewhere in the middle of two opposing narratives. It’s often framed as “his truth” and “her truth” versus “the truth”—but the result is that it benefits the person accused of wrongdoing

The number of women gleefully participating in MeToo backlash campaigns without even realizing they’re a part of a larger movement to undermine their safety and equality makes me depressed beyond words

In just the time it took to report, write, and publish this piece, viral online responses to Blake Lively had already reverted to bashing her again, making this quote stand out even more: “People have short memories. They retreat back to bad behavior.”

TY to @kattenbarge.bsky.social for chatting!

What's scary re: the Blake Lively/Justin Baldoni situation is how platforms ❤️ to boost anti-women content, no PR needed.

Amber Heard was the #1 example. Lively is up there. But you see this pattern everywhere.

Just opened TikTok and first video I got:

If the Depp-Heard fiasco didn't, the Blake Lively smear campaign should drive home an important media literacy lesson that I'm afraid many are missing: when it seems like everybody is suddenly talking about something, consider the possibility that the viral moment was engineered.

I actually read Blake Lively’s entire 80-page lawsuit against Justin Baldoni and watching the social media discussion around it play out is surreal because so much of what people are confidently saying is completely destroyed in the evidence they will probably never read

Whenever people say “I watched the entire trial” referring to Depp v Heard they almost always follow it up by saying something untrue about the trial they supposedly watched

When we think about why victims of sexual violence don’t come forward or report, it’s worth thinking about how Donald Trump was accused by at least 26 women, and that a majority of voters—including a majority of white women—don’t view sexual violence as a barrier to leadership

In 1942, at the height of the Second World War, Alfred Eisenstaedt photographed sweethearts bidding each other farewell before the men depart for war, not knowing if they'd ever return. These candid shots give us a glimpse of what average Americans wore.

Let's look at the details. 🧵

“inequality shrinking” uhhh
Real incomes rising, inequality shrinking, unemployment at record lows for an astonishing period of time, protections for labor and consumers, new infrastructure, the world’s largest climate bill. Americans are too rich to feel any of it and thus understand the world through their phones
Okay but where was the “good” even?

men /have/ to be the one’s to challenge patriarchy and save each other. all these articles about today’s lost boys, and none of em get to “it’s patriarchy that is making men suffer too”. Everyone else has already pointed it out, now it’s time for men to get serious about solving their problems.
Women and girls cannot be expected to save men and boys from their own misogyny. We have to demand better from men and boys, not cater to their hatred of us. This is not ideological, this is about our safety and the trajectory of our entire lives.

Something I don’t see discussed enough about manosphere influencers who are so attractive to men unlike those mean nasty feminists is that the influencers are scamming these men. They’re advertising junk products, gambling, crypto, and taking their money. And misleading them. And name-calling them.
