Starting “The Revolutionary War” now and boy, this thing is choppy

By not starting micro and going macro like the makers usually do makes it hard to focus on the story

Happy with the talking heads thus far, at least

“I can’t release the documents for legal reasons” was Trump’s cop-out on his tax returns. It worked on his base, because they didn’t care about the returns. “I can’t because of legal reasons of my own doing” is much less likely to work on Epstein, for which his allies have stoked enormous demand.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. There’s no vote required if he wants to release them!

The only reason the house was voting was because he refused.

This is an obviously cynical ploy and major news outlets are running whole pieces without pointing this out. He could release them tonight.
If he has nothing to hide he doesn’t need a House vote. He can just release everything.

a huge reason the auto industry cannot hire all the mechanics they need is lack of access to the technical education anyone needs to become an automotive technician! cost of this education & failure by corporations to train workers - also a huge factor.

That’s created a de facto soft-budget constraint.

U.S. policymakers have been able to run deficits rather than make tough fiscal choices.

If that goes away — especially if it happens quickly because the idiots running our government destroy the foundations of 💵 dominance — we’re truly fucked.

With Epstein in the news, here are 2 pieces I wrote

From 2018: Epstein's 1980's boss Steven Hoffenberg spent 18 yrs in jail for $475M ponzi scheme - later claimed Epstein was co-conspirator who owed investors $1 Bil, Hoffenberg launched a pro-Trump PAC that claimed to have $50M in-kind donations
Complaint against Jeffrey Epstein for $475M ponzi scheme losses
In 1995 Steven Hoffenberg pleaded guilty to a ponzi scheme. In 2016 he attempted to reclaim money for victims from Jeffrey Epstein.

This is an incredible danger to US science. I haven't been a bench scientist in years, but thinking back to the 1990s, I'm pretty sure this would have denied federal funding to every single researcher in my department of 11 faculty. Chinese postdocs and scientists are essential to US science.
Yikes. Banning people for activities such as co-authorship and advising a graduate student is completely unreasonable in a modern research environment. And a retroactive 5 year ban is wildly unfair.
