Most likely not going to follow you back. Tired writer. She/they. Social media is a performance and I have forgotten my lines. I like knitting and Les Misérables

Of all the sins of AI, this is an unexpected and deeply annoying one
Funny animal videos no longer being trustworthy just fucking sucks all around. I love the wonder of animal behavior and what it says about the experience of being alive. It's because it happened in reality that it's so fun. It's not fun if it was just made up. There's no wonder there.

I really like the thoughts presented by this post and the one before it. However, I am a pedant at heart and know that Victor Hugo was not paid by the word and Les Misérables was not published serially. (Apologies for running off with this) 1/8
The "bedroom coders" everyone loves to romanticize were selling shareware. They were selling mail-order software. Victor Hugo wrote Les Mis as a serial for a newspaper and he got paid by the word, which is why it's so fucking long. Labor can only exist if society values its existence.

one of the coolest things about ChatGPT is how you can actually just never use it. you can fill your whole entire life with simply not once using it. it's incredible.

I paid a little old Russian cobbler to resole some (barely worn) shoes that needed more traction. He was so sad to do it and ngl I mourned with him. But also I need to not slide across the tile floor at work if even the idea of water falls onto it so needs must

Turns out this was all much ado about nothing and Google isn’t using your Gmail to train AI and if wanna turn all that stuff back on you can get your spam filters back
Looks like the article has been updated to suggest maybe they misread the policy.

I see people complaining that this also disabled their spam filters, though I still see new messages showing up in spam so it's still working fine for me after disabling things.
[Correction] Gmail can read your emails and attachments to power "smart features"
Did you know that Gmail can use your emails and attachments for its smart features? Here's how to check your settings.

I love making French onion soup because it reminds me how delicious Gruyère cheese is. But also because I get soup at the end of the toil. But mostly the cheese

Me: were they from California?
Dear reader, my brother confirms they had a California plate. I laughed my head off

The torment nexus exists and it’s called trying to find anything on university websites. When I was applying for schools years ago, I considered one mostly on the merit of “their website wasn’t hellish to interact with”

If you're not writing your long book what are you even doing. It's the summer of writing your long book, not the summer of experiencing happiness
I'm going to tell you exactly how to write a book. Do you see that impenetrable brick wall ahead of you? You're going to ram your head into it until long book is long.

tbh I kind of think the increased use of language like "consume" and "content" about art and the experiencing of it is part of what led us to this shit timeline where everything seems disposable and people are happy to let a delusional robot do their writing for them
