I recognize this is an attempt at a joke but they’re genuinely planning to tariff books, newspapers, etc as wood derivatives as part of their lumber tariffs
How long until they tariff books?

Tariffs went up again this morning.

The whole Trump-paused-tariffs narrative was always overstated. He has redistributed tariffs, but not really cut them in total.

The tariff wall is higher than the isolationist Smoot-Hawley rates.
Good morning. It is now 12:01 AM, which means a 25% tariff on all $114B in non-USCMA-compliant auto part imports has now gone into effect, alongside a hideously complex system allowing carmakers to rebate tariffs on 15% of the content in a US-made car this year & 10% next year

the tariffs have been great for me specifically in that I get to watch every stodgy business media publication start posting like 2017 resistlibs

This snippet from the Code Pink Wikipedia page reminds me how most of the 90s the "left" opposed Chinese entry to the WTO and attacked neoliberal politicians who ignored Tibet for material wealth and then somewhere around 2016 the whole thing flipped.

It would be really funny and extremely dumb if Trump is impeached a 3rd time and finally gets convicted because he has like 27% approval after tanking the economy

did a little survey of my socials this morning. the news from South Korea was all over Bluesky, nothing on Threads, only one post on X, a little commentary on TikTok and (surprisingly) at the top of my Instagram feed. feels like news orgs are trying to figure out where to invest for breaking news.

My feed is filled with useful info about what’s happening in South Korea and zero weird conspiracies blaming weather control devices. this is weird

I'm ready to say it. Bluesky is just straight up better than Twitter now. Algorithm is not as primed for rage bait. Much more pleasant experience.

I’ve been trying to keep using it, but Twitter is truly gone, like literally everything there is irredeemable garbage now, it feels like the moment the election was over it completed the transformation into just another soulless empty content mill for brain rot videos and low effort right-wing slop
