One guy I’m watching closely is Adolis Garcia, who feels likely to be non-tendered at a $12.1m price tag.

But, an Adam Duvall-esq low OBP power guy with great defense. 39, 31, 27, 25, and 19 HR seasons. He’s not a DH, but he’s won a Gold Glove, with strong exit velocities.

Worth ~$5-6m. #Reds

The #Reds hired the former Pirates pitching coach, Oscar Marin, as bullpen coach. I wonder if that makes them more or less interested in Pirates castoffs.

RHP Colin Holderman hit waivers. He was good (3.52 ERA in 107.1 IP) in 2023-2024, before a bad 2025.

RHP Dauri Moreta, former Red, also DFA’d.
November 19, 2025 at 5:42 PM
JJ Bleday was DFA’d.

What is he? First of all, NOT a CF (-38 DRS in 2304.2 innings), with average-ish speed and an okay arm, so corner OF.

He’s a platoon hitter, 103 wRC+ career vs RHP, 84 wRC+ vs LHPs, without the big platoon advantage.

He’ll be 28, making ~$2.2m, with 1 good (3.2 fWAR) season.

I hadn’t really considered Carson Spiers as a DFA candidate, but it makes sense. He’ll miss 2026, and most of the 40 man rosters are pretty full today. Maybe this is the time to pass him through waivers, which he’ll hopefully clear.

A low upside swing man out all year probably can’t stick. #Reds

RHP Carson Spiers was designated for assignment.

The 40-man is now at 40.

I expect Hector Rodriguez, Edwin Arroyo, and Leo Balcazar get added today, to protect from Rule 5 draft.

That would require clearing one spot from #Reds 40 man roster, probably among Banfield, Rortvedt, Zulueta, Thompson, or Munoz.

Balcazar lacks upside, but figures to debut in 2026 as utility guy

Pirates' Decision to Fire Pitching Coach Oscar Marin is Puzzling
The Pirates finished seventh in MLB with a 3.76 ERA, the highest they have ranked since being fifth in 2015. Again, impressive for a last-place team.

Oscar Marin, 42, was Mariners minor league pitching coordinator in 2017-2018, Rangers bullpen coach in 2019, and Pirates pitching coach 2020-2025.

Matt Tracy, 36, was #Reds bullpen coach 2023-2025. 2020-2022 he was apparently the Blue Jays pitching ‘analysis’ and then ‘development’ coordinator.
Former Pirates pitching coach Oscar Marin has been named as the Reds bullpen coach. Former bullpen coach Matt Tracy is now the assistant pitching coach, replacing Simon Mathews after his move to the Nationals.

So, after #Reds invited all coaches to return, three have now departed.

Brad Mills, retired
JR House, moved home
Simon Mathews, accepted better job

I wonder who takes the open Assistant Pitching Coach job. I believe Brian Garman and Bryan Conger are still pitching coordinators. Seth Etherton?
November 12, 2025 at 12:22 AM
Simon Mathews was hired as the new Nationals pitching coach, giving Derek Johnson a key opening to fill for #Reds.
#Reds Assistant Pitching Coaches:

Caleb Cotham (2019-2020), hired by Phillies

Eric Jagers (2021-2022), hired by Mets

Alon Leichman (2023-2024), hired by Marlins

Simon Mathews (2025-present)

I wonder if the two year trend of these guys being hired away holds, or if Matthews gets hired sooner.
