I think Adolis Garcia is mostly who we’d like Rece Hinds to be, with a mostly similar skill set, and many of the same concerns.

A player in the Austin Hays tier, with more power and defense, and less OBP and LHP crushing.

He’s not Kyle Schwarber, but is someone you want playing the outfield.

He has to make more contact, walk more, strike out less. But he can really hit the ball hard.

While his +16 DRS, +1 OAA, +2 FRV in 2025 reflect his value as a fielder, with an ugly 2024 being a big career outlier. He’s been way above average in 4 of the past 5 years.

I’d support waiver claims of either or both guys. Both have minimal salaries, and won’t keep better options from signing. But, may also drop the Yosver Zuluetas and so on a step down the depth chart heading into spring training.

Oscar Marin probably has good familiarity with both guy already.

Moreta, of course, had a strong 2023 after the Reds traded him for a utility player. But, then he blew out his elbow. Upon returning in 2025, his velocity was down a bit (84.6 to 83.5mph on slider he throws 56%+ of the time, 95.2 to 94.6 on fastball).

But, now another year out from surgery.

Holderman threw ~97mph in 2023, 2024, and 2025, so velocity wasn’t the issue. At times he’s been a big ground ball guy, with 3+ pitch repertoire. Somehow his K% dropped from ~25% in 2023-2024 to ~14.4% in 2025. His sweeper was his strikeout pitch in 2023-2024, but I guess stopped working.

One place suggests Carlos Jorge might get protected, but I disagree. A glove first centerfielder with questionable offensive upside who hasn’t hit his way out of advanced A ball yet?

If somebody wants to draft that, cool, good luck. He’ll be returned faster than Cooper Bowman.

With Balcazar, maybe I’m most impressed by his 10.6 BB%, 11.1 K% in AA.

Always impressed by guys who improve as they move up. A nice rebound after down 2024, after his 2023 started great before season ending injury.

And a decent showing in AFL, where he added 3b to his SS/2b repertoire.

He sure has an awesome name.

Balcazar walked as much as he struck out in 51 games in AA, can probably play SS/2b/3b. Maybe he returns to AA to start 2026 if he stays with #Reds, but on verge of a AAA promotion already.

I see him a bit as Santiago Espinal’s successor, with options. I suspect somebody tries him in utility role.

Oscar Marin being fired for the Pirates pitching not being good enough in the best season by the Pirates pitching staff in a decade shows how brutal the business can be.

I’m really curious how he can help as a bullpen coach, one of the more commonly forgotten roles of a coaching staff.
