Reiterating my case for public pledges to not work on research projects, review papers, cite papers, or teach papers that in any way use AI.
NEW: LibGen contains millions of pirated books and research papers, built over nearly two decades. From court documents, we know that Meta torrented a version of it to build its AI. Today, @theatlantic.com presents an analysis of the data set by @alexreisner.bsky.social. Search through it yourself:

"before the first abortion ban went into effect, the rate of sepsis for this patient population was remarkably steady.

After the first ban was passed in 2021, it shoots up by more than 50%"

The Indigenous People of North America have decided to go back to calling the Gulf of Mexico, “Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl”. It is what the Nahuatl People originally called it as it is the domain of the goddess Chalchiuhtlicue, who is assoc w/water bodies, including the Gulf of Mexico.

I really want to change my ringtone to Kendrik Lamar screaming "MUSTAAAAAAAAAAAARD!" since my that's my last name in another language.

Then I remember that as a theatre maker and an educator, my phone is on silent or vibrate 98% of the time anyway.

The idea still makes me giggle, though.

I am happy to say the "Followers only" reply setting is getting implemented. We're also adding a way to set default reply settings

If you want your posts to default to "Followers only," that'll become an option

I put a library hold on this book months ago, but some things just arrive at the right time.

"Democracy, If We Can Keep It: The ACLU’s 100-Year Fight for Rights in America" by Ellis Cose is extraordinary writing and a well-researched and compelling history. 💙📚 🗃️

If you're feeling overwhelmed right now and are experiencing a functional freeze when it comes to "what can I do?":

Focus on what you know. Focus on where you have access and influence. Focus on your unique skills. And work there.

It's all connected, so what you do where you are counts overall.

For every $1 spent in NIH research grants, their work drives $2.46 of economic activity.

I have never in my life seen a cat that looked more like it was about to break my kneecaps on behalf of a loan shark.
Wobble has 3 regular sachets of catfood in the morning. After that he continues to meow but, if given a 4th, will just stare at it accusingly as if it's the food's fault he's full.
