Equitable inclusion of patients with cancer on the palliative care register: a systematic review in primary care

Everyone should get the end of life or respite care they need, no matter where they live.

But in remote, rural and island areas, that’s not a reality.

Long journeys, poor transport and staff shortages make it harder to get vital support.

I will always share this too. Everyone needs to read it.

I almost drowned when I was 6. In a busy pool with people standing around me - none of them realised I was drowning.

If my Dad hadn’t seen me go under from the opposite end of the pool, I wouldn’t be here today.
Thanks for the reminder @janemunday.bsky.social. Every summer, I repost this article DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. To date, I know of FOUR kids who were saved after someone who'd clicked on the link learnt how to spot actual drowning. Take time to read and pass on.

A great article that articulates some of my own thoughts on the assisted dying bill.

Increasing choice and improving palliative care isn’t mutually exclusive. We can do both. Even with the best possible palliative care, some people would prefer to have the right to choose.

Interesting campaign.

But is it really inclusive when the only obvious depiction of the working class is an angry man on a council estate? 🤔
Sometimes I love working at Channel 4.

"The whole system is in a perilous state due to a lack of sustainable funding & limited prioritisation of end of life care"

Well said @munirawilson.bsky.social 👏

❗️Whether assisted dying is made legal or not, it's crucial the UK government acts to improve end of life care.

Deep in thesis writing mode at the mo & this is on my mind a lot more than it should be.

Do I edit out my em dashes, so I’m not accused of getting the bots to write it?

Or do I prepare an audit trail that proves I loved this *far superior* punctuation mark before AI was a twinkle in Altman’s eye?
For my first @salonnewsroom.bsky.social piece, I wrote about how freaks for the em dash (me, and possibly you) will not stand by and cede our precious punctuation to AI www.salon.com/2025/06/11/a...
AI can’t have my em dash
Gen Z and AI have pulled a divisive punctuation mark into the spotlight.

It's good to see the government reconsider its position on winter fuel payments.

But this is no help to working age terminally ill people.

Even if they're living IN POVERTY, working age terminally ill people still can't get the payment - simply because they're dying too young.

People who are terminally ill should NEVER have to worry about being able to afford their bills or other essentials.

This is a truly sad and shocking situation – and it’s happening to people right across the UK. 💔

An intervention I’m guessing would be way more effective… it’s a bit radical though… more NHS dentists?
Should we be increasing flouride levels in water in some parts of the UK to improve dental health? Huge disparities between high and low income households - so do we need interventions like this to prevent hospitalisations?

Big debate about this - what are your thoughts? @bbc5live.bsky.social

@bhfpolicy.bsky.social’s report highlights why we need a cross-government strategy on #healthinequalities. Our latest survey saw nearly 90% of doctors concerned about the impact of health inequalities on patients.

Tackling what makes people sick in the first place is vital to reducing #NHS demand.
🆕 Out today, our new report 'Bridging Hearts' explores the inequalities which exist in cardiovascular risk, outcomes and care across 3 lenses: deprivation, sex and ethnicity.

We set out action that Govt and the health system should take to drive better outcomes for all 🫀
