Hospice UK’s new data shows specialist hospice staff made 150,000 fewer home visits this year, because rising costs and insufficient funding are holding services back.

Hospices are being forced to cut care at the very moment they’re needed most.

Powerful piece on Newsnight last night highlighting the hospice funding crisis, filmed at St Raphael's Hospice.

It was also incredibly moving to hear Sir Michael Palin share his experience of the vital care his late wife received, and to use his platform to call for urgent government support.
"Those last four weeks of her life when she was in the hospice, I think it's odd to say, but were some of the happiest of her life."

Sir Michael Palin reflects on the care his wife received in a hospice, as he calls for more support for hospices in the budget.

Thank you to Christopher Hinchliff MP for raising the issue of hospice funding in today’s PMQs.

His spotlight on the critical financial situation Garden House Hospice Care is facing is hugely appreciated.

The National Audit Office has published a report on the financial sustainability of England's adult hospices, calling it a matter of "national importance".

It says the Govt lacks clarity on how its funding impacts hospices as demand for end of life care rises.

As the Health Minister says, charitable giving will always matter for hospices, but they need reliable government funding to plan care.

1 in 5 ended last year over £1m in deficit and 2 in 5 are planning cuts this year.

Time is running out and hospices need fair funding now.

We’re in Parliament today calling for fair funding for hospices.

Hospice staff make 1.4m home visits each year, helping people live well at home.

Hospices could ease NHS pressure and bring more care closer to home, but without fair funding, many hospices are fighting just to keep their doors open.

New data shows 57% of hospices in England ended the last year in deficit, with 1 in 5 by over £1M.

Many are cutting services. This can't continue.

We’re calling for full Government funding of specialist palliative care and urgent action to ease the burden.

Today, alongside my Lib Dem colleague @charlotte-cane-mp.bsky.social MP, I visited the @arthurrankhospice.bsky.social saw the wonderful facilities, and met with Deputy CEO Sara Robins. The hospice is set to lose almost £1 million in funding next year, leading to a loss of 9 out of its 23 beds.

Hospices are on the brink. Surging costs have led to many services being cut back – just as demand is rising, fast, because of our ageing population.

The situation is not sustainable – and time is running out.
