POV: You’re caring for your mum who’s been diagnosed with terminal cancer. 💔

You’ve cut back on your hours at work to care for her. The cold snap hits. It suddenly costs a lot more to keep the house warm.

You wrap your mum in blankets and dread the energy bill coming through the door. 😩

POV: Your son is diagnosed with terminal cancer and becomes too ill to work.

You apply for benefits, but there are lots of forms to fill in & it’s not clear which forms are the right forms. You try phoning the DWP for help but can’t get through.

Your son is dying. And the bills keep piling up.

Every chair here represents someone who died in poverty in the UK.

It's heartbreaking this is happening. 💔

🚨 BREAKING: 103,000 people died in poverty in the UK last year - that’s 281 people dying in poverty every day.

This is so wrong. Everyone should get the financial support they need to spend their final months, weeks and days in comfort.

❗Paramedics are often being left without access to patient information or medications when attending people nearing end of life who urgently need palliative care.

This is so wrong.

🚨🎉 GOOD NEWS: The UK Government has committed to introducing a national strategy for palliative and end of life care.

Minister of State for Care @skinnock.bsky.social outlines his plans. 👇

This is a crucial step towards fixing the gaps in palliative and end of life care. 🙌

Wes Streeting has big ambitions for the NHS.

But he has no plan to fix the gaps in palliative and end of life care.

❗ Dying people deserve better. We need a national strategy to improve palliative and end of life care – and we need it now.

Here’s something nobody ever told you about hospices... 🤫

A lot of people think a hospice is a physical building – and you have to live near it to get support.

That isn’t necessarily true. 🧵

We hear from lots of people living with a terminal illness who are *very* worried about how they’ll manage their energy bills this winter.

Secretary of State for Energy Security Ed Miliband highlights some of the support the UK government has made available.

Here’s something nobody ever told you about hospices... 👀🧵

A lot of people think hospice care is just painkillers and medical treatment.

❌ That couldn't be further from the truth.

🚨 The Labour Party has been talking a lot about their plans to build an NHS fit for the future at the Labour party conference.

🚨Whether assisted dying is made legal or not, the UK government must fix the gaps in palliative care.

We have a neutral position on assisted dying. We’re not for or against it.

But we do believe EVERYONE should have access to good palliative care at the end of their life.
September 19, 2025 at 4:05 PM
❗It’s time to talk about all the misinformation being spread about hospice care as part of the assisted dying debate – including this post below.

Let us be clear. Assisted dying is still not legal in the UK and it is not available at hospices. ❌

❗RECORD BREAKING 190 peers are expected to join and speak at the historic assisted dying debate which has started today in the House of Lords.

We’re seeing some misinformation being shared about assisted dying online.

We want to clarify a few things and offer some reassurance ahead of the debate on Friday. Here’s a short explainer thread 🧵

🚨 The APPG for Hospice & End of Life Care has found there is not enough financial protection in place for terminally ill people.

People are refusing treatment because they can't meet transport and childcare costs.

This isn’t right. Everyone deserves financial security at the end of their life. 💛

❗ People living with a terminal illness already face sky-high energy bills because they need to vital run medical equipment and keep their homes at a controlled temperature.

Another increase will push MORE people into poverty. How is that acceptable?

Nobody living with a terminal illness should have to worry about making ends meet.

But people are dying in poverty because they don’t have enough money to afford the essentials they need.
