It’s important we address these challenges. Patients who are missed may not receive timely support to manage their symptoms, maximise their quality of life, or plan ahead for the care they'd like to receive at the end of life.

We identified several barriers from 24 studies. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the most widely discussed were difficulties proactively identifying patients given the time pressures, heavy workloads and limited resources currently affecting primary care services in the UK.
