So I did the thing before I chickened out (or came to my senses) and threw up a GFM as a stop gap measure. I hate doing it more than anyone will hate seeing another fund raiser.

hear me out, what if I did a reading project where I read biographies of history's most irritating people

who would go on that list, please help me populate it. obviously Byron. obviously Thoreau. obviously Charlotte Bronte. who else.
November 14, 2025 at 1:11 PM
it's never a bad time to talk about the time Thoreau refused to pay taxes because he thought America was doing unjust wars of conquest (cause we were). my most contrarian opinion is that I fucking love Thoreau and you should too.

Robert de la Chevotière’s second novel is a haunted tale of colonialism and Caribbean spirituality that @bookjockeyalex.bsky.social calls a "gorgeous magical realism story." Read our review of Tall Is Her Body:

"But what can *I* do about it?" At the very least, you could be honest w yourself abt what you're doing if you see injustice or abuse & do nothing about it. At the very least, you can be honest w yourself--that you fail to act because you 1 believe in this gross system 2 want its spoils for yourself

and on a personal level, we have to constantly CONSTANTLY police the part of ourselves that cares more about the comfy cozy status quo than we care about survivors who have been brave enough to speak up about what was done to them.
This doesn't apply to just NG; it doesn't just apply to entertainment or media industries. These quotes, from that 2024 post linked upthread, apply to the current situation & far too many others to count. Even if those files are fully released, we still gotta burn down the system that created them.

As we approach the end of the year, it's a great time to record things you love! Not just for the Hugo Awards, but in general. The rec sheet is a handy resource for nomination, but also at its heart a rec resource in a loud, busy media environment.
