the graphic here does a great job of illustrating why prices have not risen exactly as much as tariffs have, but are stepping up over time
Donald Trump has pushed US tariffs on foreign goods to the highest level since before the second world war.

"The microwave sensors, unlike traditional satellites, peer beneath the clouds, giving a three-dimensional MRI-like glance inside hurricanes, a sort of night-vision goggles for hurricane forecasters."
If you think I've forgotten about the hurricane satellites, think again. The Navy is permanently unplugging them this week, on the brink of the busiest stretch of the season. There's so much more to this story, and I have the latest scoop. ⬇️

I want to reiterate that countless conservative judges issued universal injunctions against the Biden administration, and the Supreme Court never halted the practice. Now, barely five months into Trump's second term, the court puts an end to these injunctions. A brazen double standard.

And when the fifth circuit decides that the order is valid because it's staffed with fanatical incompetents, and scotus refuses cert, we'll have the ✨ delightful✨ situation where your citizenship status might change depending on what state you're in, just like in slave days! Aah, the nostalgia!
The upshot of this decision, for now, seems to be exactly the crazy patchwork scenario we were warned about:

- the lower-court injunctions continue to protect the parties (immigrant orgs, individuals and 22 states) from Trump's EO
- the EO can (and will) be enforced in the other 28 states

There is a very simple way to use AI constructively without being a dupe: Ask it for its sources and see if they say what it claims. Not rocket science, but lots of people just ... don't do this. Which suggests they are not checking the sources on other resources they use.
One thing I'm taking away from all the stories of people copying fake AI citations is how many people must be cribbing from Wikipedia in similar situations without ever checking its sources. Lots of pseudo-knowledge circulating because people are too uncritical/lazy to check it.

🚨WOW. It turns out that a "Tren de Aragua gathering" the Trump admin said it broke up in March ... was just a BIRTHDAY PARTY.

None of the people arrested at the party seem to have any criminal record — and none have been charged criminally in the months since it happened.

Read the story below.

This is deranged. Jan. 6 defendants were repped by one of the best public defender offices in the U.S. They were more likely to be released pretrial & got comparatively light sentences. SCOTUS threw out a bunch of convictions, which almost never happens. They got gold-plated due process!

This letter is just freakishly incoherent and inappropriate. It’s what you would get if you put, like, Tim Pool or Ben Shapiro into a US Attorney’s chair, made them drink a quart of bourbon, and told them to get angry at something
1. This is so poorly written that the sentence that is -- I think -- supposed to convey a semi-veiled legal threat is incomprehensible.

2. I'm jealous of whichever lawyer gets to write the response.
