Cool and confusing. I had been married for a little over a year, we had our first kid, and life was good. I was enjoying my time as an infantry platoon leader and spent more time in the field doing gunnery & STX/LFXs than I thought I would. Young, dumb, in love, and in charge. Good, confusing times.

5yo just got the word “creditor” mixed up with “predator” and, as an adult, it’s hard to correct her.

So we give non-humanities majors 'Baby's First History/Literature Class' and then they walk into the world thinking our fields are a joke because the only version of it they ever took expected very little of them - and, perversely, this inclines them against the humanities even more.

"Secular" Christmas isn't a thing. You can celebrate Christmas without believing in Christianity as a religion but you're still participating in a Christian holiday. Claiming its all "pagan" is not only inaccurate but also serves to downplay the Christian aspects and talk over minority religions /1
